A good market gives people a reason to stay a little longer. For parents, that often means knowing their children have a safe, engaging space to play while the family enjoys food, music, shopping and time together.

In February 2026, Unique Timber Plastics helped bring that idea to life at Lourensford Market with a custom recycled plastic jungle gym designed for children aged three and up.

The Aleit Group and Aleit Academy team wanted to uplift the children’s area and make the market experience even more welcoming for families. The brief was clear: create a playground that suited the look and feel of the venue, worked within the available budget, and gave the market a lasting feature with real presence.

A playground designed for adventure

The finished jungle gym gives children plenty of ways to climb, balance, explore and play. It includes:

Two slides
Two swings
Three walkway bridges
A tyre and rope ramp
Fireman poles
A rock wall

It is the kind of all-round play structure that lets children choose their own adventure, while parents can enjoy the atmosphere of the market nearby. As with any playground, adult supervision remains important.

1,600 kg of recycled plastic, built for everyday play

This project used approximately 1,600 kg of recycled plastic material. Unique Timber Plastics works with recycled plastic streams that include HDPE and LDPE materials—the types of plastics commonly associated with everyday packaging.

Rather than trying to turn that weight into an exact number of shopping bags or bottles, we prefer to be transparent: packaging comes in many shapes, sizes and weights. What matters is that 1,600 kg of recycled material was transformed into a durable outdoor playground, instead of remaining part of the waste stream.

The result is a structure made to handle outdoor life at a busy venue. Recycled plastic does not rot, splinter or need regular sealing like timber. That means less maintenance for the venue team and more time for children to enjoy the space.

For a venue such as Lourensford Market, a playground is more than an extra feature. It helps parents feel comfortable bringing children along, gives families another reason to return, and makes the market experience feel more inclusive.

A well-designed children’s area can become part of the memory of a day out: the slide a child wanted to try again, the bridge they finally crossed, or the extra time a family was able to spend together.

That is what made this project special. It was not simply about building a jungle gym. It was about helping a well-loved market widen its welcome to families.
